Christy’s Story

My second baby is now three months old and I am in pants that are two sizes smaller then I could wear for the entire first year after my first baby was born. Even better, I feel great and I have energy. I take pride in the fact that my fast rebound from pregnancy and my slim size is due to healthy, slimming Bar Method exercise and not any crazy diet. I have even had a doctor ask me how did I slim down so fast?

Postpartum recovery is different for everyone. After both pregnancies still I got crazy hungry and I don’t think I could maintain a low calorie diet until I stop nursing. Last time I stayed frumpy and had a weakened core for years. I had problems with back and shoulder pain and then tried to diet, but failed.

This time I feel great. I can wear clothes from my regular wardrobe, I can play with my preschooler and carry my baby around without back or shoulder pain. This is fantastic because I am way to busy to slow down to recover from an injury. I weigh the same as after my first baby but I am two sizes smaller. I guess that is the difference between bulky fat and dense, lean muscle that the Bar Method exercise creates.

It is pretty much impossible for me to get to the studio. I try to sneak out at 5:40 am for the 6 am class. The baby will wake up and need to eat and the dogs need to go out and my husband has to get up to help out. The 6 am class is too early for me, I would rather feed the baby and hope he goes back to bed so that I can go back to bed. If I don’t go to the 6 am class, I will not get a workout at all. I have tried working out at home or walking with the baby, but there are too many distractions. So, I pull myself out of bed, give my husband a bottle and get in the car. Once I am there, I do as I am told and stretch, twist, bend, fold and shake as every muscle group is worked. I leave, sometimes a bit spacey from the exercise, and I always in a good mood.

I know my hard work at the Bar Method studio has given me the core strength to do all the things I need to do for my family. My time at the studio has also given me a daily moment of peace. My house is crazy with dogs, kids, babies, noisy toys and a never ending to-do list. Sometimes, my time at the studio is the only time I leave the house or have a moment to myself. The one hour a day I spend working my body and giving myself physical strength is my gift to myself. I feel good and when I feel good, my entire family benefits.
